Accessible Information

Accessible Information is information which is adapted to support individuals or groups with communication difficulties, such as people with learning disability, to understand the message.

It involves:

  • simplifying the language
  • conveying the simplified message using other methods

These methods could include written, pictorial, video or audio formats or a combination of these.

Easy Read Information

Easy Read is one way of making information more easily understood by people who have communication difficulties including some people with learning disability.

Easy Read documents will not meet the needs of everyone who has communication difficulties but it will help some people to access the information independently or with support from family, friends or staff.

Easy Read information usually changes how information is presented to make it easier to understand by:

  • Focusing on the important messages
  • Using simple language
  • Using short sentences
  • Including visual information such as photos, drawings or symbols
  • Using large and plain font
  • Using an uncluttered layout

These Easy Read databases can be useful to find ready made information.  These are all external links and the LD MCN is not responsible for the content on these sites. Please contact individual sites with any feedback or questions.
