MCN Trauma Training
The Keeping Trauma In Mind training programme was developed by local clinicians in conjunction with Solihul Approach organization.  Two cohorts of the programme have now been delivered by the MCN for learning disabilities clinicians working with adults.  This training involves two initial face to face training days and covers awareness of trauma and adverse experiences, particularly in relation to brain development and attachment.   The Solihul model has three elements (Containment, Reciprocity and Behaviour Management) and is introduced as part of the training to help clinicians develop their own understanding of the people with LD they are working with, how their experiences may have impacted on their current behaviour or presentation and how to ensure their clinical approach is trauma informed.   Four mandatory sessions, of ninety minutes each, are scheduled  over the 6-8 weeks following the initial teaching, and these enable attendees to take part in discussions around their own practice, organization or community.  The programme has been evaluated against the NES trauma training plan, and meets all of Informed level criteria, and the majority of the Skilled level.  Further work is being explored to ensure attendees also have the information needed to ensure they have also met all elements of the Skilled level.    A further cohort of Keeping Trauma in Mind is planned for the MCN region in early 2020.
